It’s been a while…
We left Jemez Springs and headed back to Abiquiu, NM. We stayed at the Riana Campground for a few nights and enjoyed the reservoir and the Chama River. After visiting our favorite haunts; The Purple Farm, The Abiquiu Inn, the red rocks, Bodi’s and the Abiquiu Library – we hooked Rosalita up to Gypsy and early in the morning we headed to San Luis for an overnight and then pulled into Lathrop St Park in Walsenburg the next day.
Walsenburg was like ‘old home week’; taking care of business, seeing friends and checking in on the TALAS Art Show, where I had 2 photographs displayed and for sale. Met up with friends we’ve know since we’ve been in Aguilar, CO and new friends, in the making. We accomplished everything and saw as many of our friends as we could. We left the lakes, (the fish), people and bugs behind after a week & headed to Cody, WY. Since we were headed up to Cody, we took Patti’s carved Oriental desk up to her daughter.
We were planning to stay around Casper, but didn’t find very much available for RVer’s. So we drove all the way to the Upper Wind River Campground just outside Shoshone, WY. It was a long driving day (12 hours in all), and we do not like to be on the road this many hours in a day, but all was safe and sound. That night in Upper Wind River Campground it rained. Luckily we had put two tarps over the desk, because the back of the truck does not have a shell on it. The top of the desk got a little wet but it dried with the wind and sun on it during our final drive to Cody. On our way to Cody I checked out the weather forecast for Cody and it said, 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms for later in the afternoon.
We didn’t feel comfortable with just the two older tarps covering the desk, so we stopped at ACE Hardware and picked up a better quality tarp and tie downs to further protect the desk. We could not off load the desk for 2 days so this was our best solution. The predicted rain and thunderstorms did come and were quite heavy for a while – luckily, no hail followed this storm. The desk made it through the storms without any moisture penetrating it. It was safely off loaded and is now in it’s new “home” in Audra’s school office.
We will be here in Cody till late August – so it will mainly be day-trips again for a while. Safe vacation travels everyone, while we are stationary.
Till then…
