After leaving Meadowlark Lake, we headed to Buffalo and then north on I-90 towards Sheridan. Lake DeSmet caught our eye, as we drove by, and we decided to hang out for the day and night, so we could ‘plug in’.
Lake DeSmet occupies a natural undrained basin on the divide between Piney Creek and one of its tributaries, Boxelder Creek. It is one of several basins in the Buffalo area that were formed by coal seam fires. It was originally 1500 acres in size, but with various dams it is now 3600 acres. The lake boasts trout and walleye of pretty decent size, according to the campground host.

The lake is huge, and there are very few trees along the shore, yet Russian Olive trees surround the campsite. This Campground is not the welcoming high mountain campsite of Meadowlark Lake, but it does have electricity and internet service via our JetPack.
This evening as I write this, we are having a monstrous storm with rain, hail and WIND keeping the RV rockin’ & rollin’; and it looks like we are in for a night of it!!!
After our stay at Meadowlark Lake, we realized we need new batteries for Rosalita. The batteries are the original ones that came with our Jayco in 2007. So we must ‘bite the bullet’ soon.
Later…
Great Photos! Hope the rain and hail experience didn’t last too long. We are still getting rain…mushrooms growing in the yard, snails multiplying like crazy!
